Breast Augmentation with a Breast Lift

Dr. Andrew Lofman is starting a new series in which he walks us through the entire process of deciding whether plastic surgery is right for you, and what to expect during the following recovery period. The fifth procedure he wanted to focus on was breast augmentation with a breast lift.

From Dr. Andrew Lofman:

I recently had a patient worried about what kind of scars she could expect from a breast augmentation with an anchor style breast lift.  While it may seem a bit scary to add scars to your breasts, I think it is worth while to look at some photos of this exact surgery in order to better educate yourself. In many cases, an anchor lift is the best approach with a breast implant. This lift allows the loose skin to tighten into a beautiful shape that may not be possible with other lifts.

Breast Augmentation with a Breast LiftDay 1 of seeing the patient: This is a 34 year old female who was unhappy that her children did this to her!  She loves them, but was not happy that breast feeding made her breasts deflated and droopy.  She has ptosis of her breasts (sagging) and the skin has lost its elasticity and is very loose around the breast tissue. While some secret stores measured her as a D cup, she did not fill out her bra very well.  She desired more upper pole fullness and a more perky shape. She did not want to be “porn star big.”  She wanted breasts to fit her body and her mind.
Breast Augmentation with a Breast LiftWe agreed upon using 425cc silicone gel implants (Mentor) in a submuscular position.  We also agreed upon an anchor breast lift in order to tighten the skin around the implant. This photo is 1 week post op.  She still has bruising on both sides.  She still has swelling.  Her breast implants remain in a high position, and her pectorals muscles can be seen swollen as well.
Breast Augmentation with a Breast Lift2 months after surgery the breast implants have dropped into a more natural position.  She still a minor amount of swelling of the pectorals muscles. She has good symmetry of her implants.  The scars from the breast list are pink at this time and will remain pink for many months.
Breast Augmentation with a Breast LiftAt 9 months post-op her breast implants have settled into their final position. They look very natural, perky, and have a nice amount of upper pole fullness.  The skin of the breasts remain tight around the implants.  The scars are beginning to fade in some areas, and remain pink in other areas.  It often takes over a year before the color of the scar fades to the surrounding skin tone. She is very happy with her results.
